Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best age to start piano lessons?

This depends on the child. Everyone develops differently, so readiness is more important than age. This is why I always recommend a trial lesson to see if it would be a good fit.

What type of piano or keyboard do I need at home?

Ideally, the student should have a digital piano that has the full 88 weighted keys. For very young beginners, a smaller keyboard will work, but upgrading to a full-size instrument is best for long-term success. Those who are taking exams should be playing on an acoustic upright piano.

How can parents support practice if they don't know music?

Parents are invited to sit in on lessons if they’d like to follow along with what their child is learning. You don’t need any musical experience—simply offering encouragement, supporting a consistent practice routine, and checking that theory homework is completed are wonderful ways to help.

How soon will my child start playing songs?

It depends on the child and how well they practice at home. As a teacher, I believe it is important to honor the natural rhythm and pace of the child's learning.

What if my child has a short attention span?

Lessons are tailored to each child’s needs. For students with shorter attention spans, we may include short breaks and rotate between activities—such as ear training, music games, and playing pieces—to keep lessons fun and engaging.

Do you offer one-on-one lessons or group lessons or both?

As of right now, I only offer one-on-one lessons. This allows me to give each student my full attention and adopt lessons to their individual pace.

Will piano lessons help with other subjects in school?

There are many benefits of having a music education. Studies show that it can improve cognitive development and connections within the brain region. For further information about this, please check out the link below.

Can piano lead to other instruments later on?

Absolutely! Piano is the foundational building block of learning music. All musicians who sing or play other instruments typically have some knowledge about the piano.
